DECA Programs
Starting Point offers UPK Screenings and Assessments as part of the Devereux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA) program, designed to support Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) programs. These services focus on intentional individualization, family engagement, identifying needs, and promoting protective factors to foster children’s success.
How We Support UPK Programs:
- Administrative Support: Guidance for using the DECA and Ages and Stages 3 (ASQ-3) Questionnaire to assess children’s development.
- Training Opportunities:
- DECA Overview Training
- Annual DECA Refresher and ASQ-3 Training
- Technical Assistance: Ongoing support to implement DECA results effectively, with strength-based strategies to promote protective factors and address needs.
Additional Support for UPK Programs:
- Analyze DECA data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Conduct classroom observations to provide tailored recommendations.
- Offer social-emotional strategies for childcare professionals to support children.
- Provide mentoring for early childhood educators.
- Assist with referrals to Special Needs Child Care Programs or Early Childhood Mental Health services as needed.
