Starting Point applauds President Biden’s call for Congress to invest $16 billion in child care stabilization grants over the next year. This funding request would support more than 220,000 child care providers nationwide, serving more than 10 million kids. Investments in high-quality, affordable child care will support women’s economic security, children, and equity. Advocates say it’s a worthwhile cost to make sure quality care is affordable and accessible.
Stabilization grants approved by Congress in the past increased the availability of child care so caregivers could work. Without more public investment support, child care providers are forced to charge more than many families can pay, and child care workers are forced to work for low wages. At the same time, child care workers are paid too little for their own security.
Starting Point urges Congress to support this increased investment in child care so that families can work while their children are safe and learning.
