Starting Point’s Special Needs Child Care experts are here to help every family find specialized child care and ensure every child reaches their full potential, regardless of physical, developmental, or emotional challenges. Special Needs Child Care Referral is implemented by Starting Point and funded by Invest in Children.
Do you want to find a trusted child care provider for your child with special needs? We are your Starting Point. We connect parents with programs prepared to meet their child’s needs, and we work with the child care provider to accommodate those needs.
This two-part approach ensures that children have their needs met, and can have all of the benefits of early childhood education and child care.
The first step is calling our Family Resource Navigators for a custom referral. We’ll talk with you about your child’s needs, your schedule, and what you’re looking for. Then we connect you with child care programs that can support your child—and work with providers when extra accommodations are needed.

If your child has been turned away before, or you’re not sure where to start, this is exactly what we’re here for.

This can include care for children with autism, developmental delays, physical disabilities, behavioral or emotional needs, or medical needs. If your child needs extra support, we can help.
You’re not alone. We work with providers who can support specific needs—and we also help providers build the capacity to serve more children with different needs.
No. Thanks to funding from Cuyahoga County’s Invest in Children, our Special Needs Child Care referral services are free for families.
Funding for this program is for Cuyahoga County families only, but families across Northeast Ohio should still call—we can help point you in the right direction.
