Teaching the Alphabetic Principle: Connecting Letters, Sounds, and Meaning in Early Childhood
How do young children begin to understand that the letters they see are connected to the sounds they hear? That important discovery is called the alphabetic principle—and it is a key building block for learning to read.
In this interactive training, participants will explore how children develop connections between letters, sounds, and meaning and how those skills align with Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS).
Through playful, hands-on activities and practical examples, educators will discover developmentally appropriate ways to help children notice sounds, recognize letters, make connections, and begin to “crack the code” of reading.
Participants will leave with simple strategies and activities they can use right away to make early literacy learning engaging, meaningful, and fun!
Come ready to play with letters and sounds while helping young learners build a strong foundation for future reading success.
