Little Scientists at Work – Exploring Science Standards in Early Childhood is a two-part, in-depth training designed to help early childhood educators confidently support science learning in developmentally appropriate ways. This training series explores both the foundational knowledge and practical application of Ohio’s revised Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS) for science.
In Part 1: Foundation, participants will build a strong understanding of the two science standards in the ELDS. Through engaging discussions and reflective activities, educators will explore how these standards align with the four major science areas—physical, life, earth/space, and engineering/technology. Participants will also reflect on how science learning naturally occurs through play, exploration, and everyday experiences in early childhood settings.
In Part 2: Application, the focus shifts to putting theory into practice. Participants will apply the science standards by planning meaningful, inquiry-based learning experiences. They will examine how daily routines, materials, and classroom environments can be used intentionally to spark curiosity and promote scientific thinking. By the end of this session, each participant will design an activity plan that supports at least one science indicator from the ELDS.
This hands-on training empowers educators to recognize and enhance the science already happening in their settings—making science not an “extra,” but an integral part of young children’s development.

Part 1 will take place on October 7, 2025 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Part 2 will take place on October 21, 2025 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Participants must attend both sessions to receive credit.
