ARTS AND CULTURE WEBSITE
If you offer dance, drama, music, visual arts, history, literature or science activities for children and youth, we’ll include your program in our arts and culture website www.smartculturesource.org. To be listed, click here.
Starting Point is the lead agency for out-of-school time activities for MyCom, a multi-agency program aimed at helping young people 13-18 in Greater Cleveland reach their potential. We issue Requests for Proposal (RFP) periodically for out-of-school time activities to be included in the MyCom project. Click here for current RFPs.
To help children improve reading skills, Starting Point offers literacy programs and tools to after-school programs.
•Lit Kits for Kids
is a progressive series of three kits—Early Reader Kit, Developing Reader Kit and Fluent Reader Kit—all designed to engage children and their tutors in meaningful literacy activities to improve reading skills. They’re “fun” for children and easy-to-use for tutors or families. Each kit contains two books and interactive skill-building activities. Order your kits here.
• Prime Time Tutoring
is an after-school tutoring program where mentors and middle-school tutors conduct one-on-one literacy tutoring sessions weekly for children from Kindergarten to Grade 5 during the school year. Assessments are conducted before and after the program to determine reading gains. Currently Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lorain (BBBSL) mentor the program and Horizon Education Center middle school students serve as tutors, using our Lit Kits.
